How to Enrol

Click here for Application to Enrol in a NSW Government School

Families living in the Tacking Point Public School zone (see enrolment area map) are eligible to enrol their children at this school.
Each year a limited number of places are made available for families who do not live in the zone. In these cases an "Out of Zone Application Form" should be completed. This form is available from the school office. Students enrolling from overseas can find more information at http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/international/

Starting School - Kindergarten Students

Children who turn 5 years of age on or before 31st July are entitled to enrol in Kindergarten that year.
An application for Enrolment form is available from the school office. Applications may be made at any time, but early notice e.g. June the previous year, will assist our planning.

Kindergarten Orientation Program

· Extensive communication takes place between school and feeder preschools. Tacking Point's Assistant Principal visits the preschools to liaise with teachers and also to present information at evening meetings with families of prospective enrolments.

· Students from local preschools attend regular orientation sessions at the school. At these sessions they have a general orientation of the school and join Kindergarten students for cooperative play. They also attend K - Y2 assemblies.

· To find out more about our school or discuss a particular issue parents should organize an interview with the Assistant Principal or the Principal.

· A special information morning is organized to allow parents to meet with key school personnel while their children spent time in the classrooms.

· Once the new school year has commenced a morning tea meeting is organized so that parents of new students can learn more about their school and have questions answered.

All Other Grades

Students enrolling in Years 1 - 6 may do so at any time. Enrolling parents are requested to complete an Application for Enrolment Form available from the school office.
Early in the school year parents of all new enrolments are invited to an information morning tea.

Bikes/Road Safety

Children need to have their mode of transport, safety and conduct established by parents.
It is assumed that young children who ride bicycles to school have been given road safety lessons by their parents and must wear an approved safety helmet.
Kindergarten to Year 2 should NOT ride bicycles to school. Indeed, authorities now advise that children under the age of 10 years generally lack the necessary sensory and physical attributes to enable them to ride safely in traffic.
Students may not ride their bikes through the car park entry or ride within the school grounds. Bike racks are located on the grass area adjacent to the carpark.
The school will promote road safety (including bicycle safety) through lessons and other incidental events. In line with government policy, liability will generally not be accepted for loss or damage to private property e.g. bikes brought onto school grounds.

Bus Travel

All students that live outside a radius of 1.6km from the school are eligible for free bus travel.
Students in Years 3-6 who live within the 1.6km radius will be charged a bus fare by the bus company.
All students in Years K-2 are eligible for free travel. Application forms and details of eligibility are available from the school.
As bus routes change from time to time we suggest you contact the bus company for the latest information.

Tacking Point Public School P&C Canteen

Our canteen operates five days a week, providing morning tea and lunch. The canteen is the responsibility of the P&C and canteen profits are passed on to the school through the P&C.

The canteen operates with the assistance of two paid canteen supervisors and many dedicated volunteers.

The canteen aims to promote and provide healthy and nutritious food choices, in accordance with current canteen guidelines, as well as some lines of food we regard as "treats". Favourites for morning tea are our home baked muffins and pikelets and our freshly cooked popcorn. Selections for lunch range from a large choice of freshly made sandwiches to a wide variety of hot food, all oven heated (none fried). Home made soup has been a new and popular addition to the menu this winter.

The canteen conducts a number of special days during the year, for example, pancake day, pizza day, healthy hamburger day and footy finals day. The canteen also caters for several special events such as sports carnivals, orientation day, Easter parade, presentation days and so on.

The canteen always welcomes new volunteers, without whom our canteen could not function. Volunteers are required to work in the canteen between 10.00am and 2.00pm, usually once a month. A free lunch of the volunteer's choice is provided, together with guarantee of a good chat and good laugh! It's great fun!

Contact the canteen supervisors if you would like to become a canteen volunteer.

Tacking Point Public School P&C Association

Our P&C Association's primary goal is the promotion of home, school and community partnerships that will assist principals, teachers, support staff, parents and students in the development and planning of school activities.

Involving yourself in your child's schooling is a very rewarding experience, both for yourself and your child. Research has consistently shown that engagement in a child's schooling by parents invariably results in a marked improvement in the child's academic results.

At Tacking Point, parents can help in a number of ways: helpers are welcomed in the classrooms, the library and the canteen; assistance on excursions and special outings is always required, and the many fundraising activities that the P&C undertakes needs volunteers to manage and help with their running. Fundraising activities include: chocolate drives, car boot sales, Mothers Day and Fathers Day stalls, sausage sizzles; fun times for the whole family such as Pool Night and the Spring Fair; and a parents only function, Trivia Night. Many friendships are made at these functions and an enjoyable time is had by all.

Meetings of the P&C Association are held at the school on the first Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. These last about an hour and a half, and a wide variety of business is discussed. You will find the meetings informative and a useful opportunity at which you have a chance to have your say and find out what is going on. You are strongly urged to attend this friendly forum.
